READING: PHONICS, FLUENCY, COMPREHENSION (GRADES K-2)

READING I: Phonics for Emerging Readers (Gr. PreK-K) - these classes are designed for children who are starting or currently attend Kindergarten and for children with reading levels D and below.  This class will focus on the strengthening of phonemic awareness skills through sound and word discrimination, blending, phoneme deletion and manipulation; as well as identifying and reading DOLCH sight words. This class is taught in a very interactive and engaging way, by integrating various media, games and songs, as well as other activities designed to keep young students' focus and interest.  

These classes are conducted in a small group setting, led by a certified elementary school teacher who specializes in teaching early literacy classes.  These classes take place twice a week; the duration of each lesson is 30 minutes.

For the Summer 2022, groups are formed based on the students' current reading level are as following:

Reading I-A (Pre-Primer Level): for children new to reading to reading at level A-C

Reading I-B : for children currently reading at level D-G

For the Fall 2022, groups are formed based on the students' reading level are as following:

Reading I-A (Pre-Primer Level): for children new to reading to reading up to level A-B

Reading I-B : for children currently reading at level C-D

 

READING II: Fluency for Rising Readers (Gr. 1-2) - in this class, our young readers will focus on the strengthening of phonemic awareness skills and reading fluency; as well as identifying and reading DOLCH sight words on level.   Readers will focus on their targeted reading goal during each session and will enrich their learning with home practice assignments.  This class is conducted in a small group setting (up to 6 children) led by a certified elementary school teacher who specializes in teaching early literacy classes. The duration of each lesson will be 60 minutes.

For the Summer 2022 session, groups are formed based on the students' current reading level are as following:

Reading II-A : for children reading at level H-K

Reading II-B : for children reading at level L-R

For the Fall 2022 session, children seeking admission into this class should be reading at level E-J

 

READING III:  Comprehension and Writing Skills (Gr. 2-3) - this class is designed for children who are looking to improve their reading, writing, grammar, and punctuation skills and concepts that students are expected to know by the end of the lower elementary school.  Students will also work on developing critical thinking, vocabulary, and several other skills and concepts to prepare them for the upper elementary curriculum.
The engaging lessons include easy-to-follow explanations, examples, and charts for visual learners! Each lesson consists of a variety of fun, colorful and interactive activities that promote language development and critical thinking skills.  The duration of each lesson will be 60 minutes.
