READING: PHONICS, FLUENCY, COMPREHENSION (GRADES K-2)

READING I: Phonics for Emerging Readers (Gr. PreK-K)
This class is designed to introduce young learners (primarily, students in PreK and K) to the world of reading through fun and engaging activities.
This class will focus on the strengthening of phonemic awareness skills through sound and word discrimination, blending, phoneme deletion and manipulation, identifying and reading DOLCH sight words and developing comprehension skills. We use a variety of teaching methods, such as storytelling, interactive games, and group reading, to keep our students engaged and excited about learning. By the end of this class, our students will have developed a foundation for reading and a love for books that will last a lifetime.
This class is conducted in a small group setting led by a certified elementary school teacher who specializes in teaching early literacy classes.
Classes take place twice a week; the duration of each lesson is 30 minutes.
For the Spring 2023 session, groups are formed based on the students' reading level as follows:
Reading I-A (Pre-Primer Level): for children new to reading to reading or reading up to level A-C
Reading I-B : for children currently reading at level D-F
For the Summer 2023 session, groups are formed based on the students' reading level as follows:
*New students:
Reading I-A (Pre-Primer Level): for children new to reading to reading or reading up to level A-D
Reading I-B : for children currently reading at level E-G
**Current students:
students enrolled in Reading I-B class during the current school year (2022-23) should continue with the Reading I-B class for the summer session
READING II: Fluency for Rising Readers (Gr. 1-2)
This class is designed to build upon the foundation laid in Reading I-B classes and further develop students' reading skills. We focus on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through a variety of activities, including group reading, independent reading, and interactive games. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students while keeping the learning process fun and engaging. By the end of this class, our students will have improved their reading skills and developed a love for reading that will serve them well throughout their academic career. This class is conducted in a small group setting led by a certified elementary school teacher who specializes in teaching early literacy.
For the Summer 2023 session, groups are formed based on the students' reading level as follows:
*New students: this class is recommended to students who are currently reading at level K-L and above (if you are not sure about your child's reading level, please contact us at info@alphamindsacademy.com for an assessment)
**Current students: this class is for students who are enrolled into our Reading II class during the current school year (2022-23)
READING III: Comprehension and Writing Skills (Gr. 2-3)
This class is designed to help students improve their reading comprehension skills and develop their writing abilities. Through a combination of group discussions and individual activities, students will learn how to analyze and interpret different types of texts, including fiction and nonfiction. They will also learn how to express their thoughts and ideas through writing, including sentence structure, paragraph formation, and basic grammar.
Our engaging lessons include easy-to-follow explanations, examples, and charts for visual learners! By the end of this class, our students will have the skills and confidence needed to read and write effectively. This class is conducted in a small group setting led by a certified elementary school teacher who specializes in teaching early literacy classes.
For the Summer 2023 session, groups are formed based on the students' reading level as follows:
*New students: this class is recommended to students who are currently reading at level Q and above (if you are not sure about your child's reading level, please contact us at info@alphamindsacademy.com for an assessment)
**Current students: this class is for students who are enrolled into our Reading III class during the current school year (2022-23)
READING IV: Comprehension and Writing Skills (Gr. 4-5)
This class is designed to help students improve their reading comprehension skills and develop their writing abilities. Through a combination of group discussions and individual activities, students will learn how to analyze and interpret different types of texts, including fiction and nonfiction.
